Ants

Mounds built by ants on golf course greens and tees create bumpy playing surfaces, turf damage and damage to mower blades. This is a shame, because these ants can be otherwise very beneficial to turf when they feed on the eggs of white grubs and caterpillars. Known as nuisance ants or turfgrass ants, their scientific name is Lasius neoniger. They are brown in color and quite small, usually only 1/10 inch long.
