Red thread

Red thread, caused by the fungus Laetisaria fuciformis, can occur anytime that threat temperatures are above 65F (18C). It is normally not a serious problem and it is typically associated with slow growing turf in low nitrogen conditions.

Symptoms can usually be managed by application of nitrogen (0.2 lb/1000 sq ft nitrogen per week). Nitrogen appears to act not so much by killing the fungus, but instead by stimulating plant growth so that it can outgrow this rather weak pathogen.…
