A new thrips species on Myoporum

A new pest on the ornamental shrub Myoporum was recently introduced into Southern California, in all likelihood from Australia. Feeding by thrips causes leaves to form galls and die. The adult thrips (scientific name Klambothrips) is 1/20 inch long. As for other thrips, it is their small size and their wings, which have a fringe of long hairs along their margins, that distinguish them from other types of insects.
