Crabgrass prevention timing

The threat temperatures for application of pre-emergence herbicides for crabgrass control occurs at 52°F (11°C). In warmer locations, that time has come.
Products such as dithiopyr (Dimension), oxadiazon (Ronstar), pendimethalin (Pendulum) and prodiamine (Barricade) have shown good results, with four months or more of residual control. These products can also provide good pre-emergence control of other grassy weeds such as annual bluegrass, foxtail, goosegrass, knotweed, kyllinga and smutgrass.
