Crane fly (leatherjacket) problems spreading

According to researchers Dr. Gwen Stahnke (Washington State University) and Dr. Dan Peck (Cornell University), problems with craneflies have been on the increase in the northeast (northern NY), the Pacific Northwest and northern California.

Craneflies are familiar and slightly frightening to many because the adults look so much like giant mosquitoes. Also known as mosquito hawks (or by their scientific name Tipula), the adult stage of the cranefly actually does not bite and is generally quite harmless.
