Early white grub season?

Warmer than average springtime temperatures in some regions may trigger early preventive applications (with Mach 2 or Merit) for white grubs this year.

Normally, preventive applications against white grubs (black turfgrass ataenius, chafers, Japanese beetle, etc) are not warranted until mid- to late June in most parts of the country. So, how can you tell whether an earlier application is justified in your location?
