El Niño is on the way

I've been seeing a lot of news stories about a possible "Super El Niño," but that hasn't happened yet, and it is not certain that it will. Last week the National Weather Service released their latest ENSO Diagnostic Discussion. You can view the most recent discussion here.

El Niño conditions are present when there is a large scale abnormal warming in the equatorial Pacific, and El Niño also refers to the weather patterns that are associated with that phenomenon.
