Freeze damage

Symptoms of freeze damage on turf can take many shapes. An interesting case came from a Poa annua green in Southern California, where the leaves had a striped appearance, with green and yellow alternating bands. The yellow band was most likely formed during a recent and very short period of cold stress that did not kill the developing leaf, but injured it enough to prevent chlorophyll — the pigment that gives the leaf its green color — from forming.
