Hope for biological control of algae

Algae, more scientifically known as cyanobacteria, can act as a disease agent on greens, causing chlorotic or yellowing spots and patches that can be difficult to control. Cultural control relies on use of adequate nitrogen (ammonium sulfate seems particularly effective), maintenance of low soil salinity, avoidance of organic fertilizers, and regular topdressing with sand, as described in this PACE Turf IPM Reference.
