Ink spot on warm-season turf

Starting in 2007, superintendents in Texas, Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee started noticing dark chocolate brown to black sunken spots (1 to 2 inches in diameter) on bermudagrass and zoysigrass greens, tee boxes and fairways. Symptoms were worse following heavy rains, especially in the spring and fall. Over time, the spots melted together into larger, irregularly shaped patches.
