Science offers endless inspiration to artists of all types, as seen in the Best Science Pictures of the Year that were recently announced by the National Science Foundation and the journal Science. The pictures include illustrations as well as photographs, and range from a gorgeous image of a plant in the act of self-fertilization to the rainbow of colors generated by salts in the process of crystallization.
