White grubs at this time of year usually spell trouble for turf that is already tired from the heat, traffic and humidity of the summertime.
Grubs at this time of year may be the result of escapes from applications of imidacloprid (Merit), clothianidin (Arena), Meridian (thiamethoxam) or halofenozide (Mach 2) made earlier this year. Skips or untreated areas may now be showing damage of a summer's worth of feeding by chafers, Japanese beetles or other white grubs.
