New information on ryegrass leaching fractions

Schiavon et.al published the results of a field trial using a salinity gradient irrigation system. They discovered that ryegrass variety SR4550 required a leaching fraction of 140% ETo using an irrigation water with a salt content of 0.6 dS/m. This leaching fraction is much higher than the 3% leaching fraction estimated by current leaching fraction equations.
The reason that this research is important today is due to ongoing regulatory efforts in California to develop water budgets for the golf industry.…
