Photo of the week: bent vs. poa salinity tolerance

Sometimes, one picture really is worth a thousand words. In this case, we are looking at a beautiful illustration of bentgrass' superiority to poa in terms of its tolerance to soil salts. The soil here had an EC of 6.0 dS/m. As a result, the poa in the area highlighted by the arrow is dying (poa tolerates soil ECs up to about 4 dS/m), while the bentgrass is doing fine (bent tolerates 6 – 8 dS/m). For more information on…
