Brown ring patch, caused by Waitea circinata var. circinata, will produce mycelial growth on the surface of the affected area when it is incubated under moist conditions. Other diseases which produce similar results when incubated under moist conditions include brown patch (caused by Rhizoctonia), Pythium, and some cases of superficial fairy ring.
