Photo of the week: grass seed fields

I spent a day learning about creeping bentgrass seed production while on a visit to Oregon. This photo shows a field of creeping bentgrass in the foreground and then a darker green field of perennial ryegrass.

For seed production, creeping bentgrass can be planted at a rate of about 1 pound per acre (about 100 mg/m2). The harvest varies, but the farmers I spoke with said a good harvest of bentgrass seed would be about 700 pounds per acre (about…
