Photo of the week: gray leaf spot

One picture (or in today's case, a composite of 2 pictures) really is worth 1,000 words. The top photo shows the 2 characteristic symptoms of gray leaf spot — the fungal spore–covered foliage, which gives it that grayish color, and the twisting at the tips of turf plants (these are ryegrass plants in the photo). The lower photo shows the spores of the gray leaf spot fungus, Pyricularia grisea under the microscope. Note their tear–drop shape.
