Photo of the week: lime-induced disease

Be careful with the lime applications.

That's clear from this image, shared by Dr. Jim Kerns from NC State University. At first glance it looks like a fungicide trial, with a lot of fungicide treatments that worked, and then disease in the control plots. But that's actually not what this is showing.

Instead, it's a general lack of disease on the bermudagrass (Cynodon) green, with take-all root rot developing only in the plots that received lime (calcium carbonate) treatment.
