In a publication from the University of Nebraska, "What's the ideal fertilizer ratio for turfgrass?", agronomist Dr. Bill Kreuser lays out the science–based reasoning behind the selection of his recommended "ideal" N:P:K ratios. But he also stresses that the actual rates of P and K that should be applied depends almost completely on how much nitrogen you are applying. The more N you apply, the more the plant grows, and the more P and K it will then require.
