Transition zone GP at Rome, Italy

The air temperatures in Rome allow both cool-season and warm-season grasses to grow. This type of climate is usually called the transition zone, although the term "twilight zone" has been used as well. At the annual meeting of the American Society of Agronomy in 1952, the "Report of the Turf Committee" included these remarks:

"The 'Twilight Zone' is a term being used to describe those areas ... where warm-season grasses can be grown in summer but are not wholly satisfactory…
