The answer to the Bermudagrass Fairways Puzzler is localized dry spot. Interestingly, the dry spot was caused by severe water repellency of the thatch and mat layer, but not water repellency of the soil. The Puzzler Answer video explains the test we used to evaluate water repellency and provides test results from the good and poor performing areas illustrated in the Puzzler.
