Winter dry spot

This image illustrates the association between mushroom production and localized dry spot. When the fairy ring mushrooms were present in October, the soils were moist. By January when irrigation has been reduced, localized dry spot developed. Once the soil has dried out, it is difficult to re-wet and surfact active wetting agents are needed to correct the dry spot problem. Low soil moisture resulted in premature dormancy in the kikuyugrass that was affected by the fairy ring.
