Measuring soil moisture in space and time

We continue to receive questions regarding the difference in soil moisture readings provided by the hand-held Spectrum TDR-350 and PoGo soil moisture meter and in-ground soil sensors such as the Toro Turf Guard and UgMo sensors. The fundamental reason that in-ground sensors give different readings than hand-held meters has to do with the soil type at different levels in the soil profile, coupled with the way the sensors are used.
