Photo of the week: Rye can get smoked also

Ryegrass is awfully pretty, but unfortunately, it's awfully susceptible to disease. In this photo, ryegrass roughs (that had not been treated with any fungicides) were attacked during the summer by a menagerie of turf diseases, including gray leaf spot, and leaf spot and melting out caused by both Curvularia and Drechslera. The bottom line is that in most locations and most years, ryegrass needs to be treated with fungicides in order to survive the summer.…
