Photo of the week: Sand mounds caused by insects

There are several insect pests that construct small, bumpy mounds on golf course greens, including sod webworms, earwigs, the seedcorn beetle, rove beetles and ants. In most cases, treatment is not necessary, but if it is, make sure that you know which insect is present by doing a soap flush.
